About the position

Reporting to the Program Director, Surgery, the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Enterostomal Therapy acts as a role model, practitioner, resource person, change agent, consultant, educator and researcher in the clinical specialty. The Clinical Nurse Specialist, Enterostomal Therapy works to enhance patient care by developing nurses’ expertise in wound, skin care and stomacare. Clinical Nurse Specialist, Enterostomal Therapy provides advanced clinical care and consultation, in collaboration with health care providers within the hospital. The Clinical Nurse Specialist, Enterostomal Therapy also provides leadership and expertise in developing research/ evaluation studies, disseminating research findings and facilitating change promoting nursing “best practice” as it relates to wound, skin care and stomacare. The Clinical Nurse Specialist, Enterostomal Therapy takes a strategic leadership role in the multidisciplinary team with a mandate to promote excellence in wound, skin care and stomacare throughout the organization.


Education/experience

  • Enterostomal Therapy and Wound Care Management Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses with a minimum of 2 years recent Enterostomal Therapy
  • Minimum of 2 years current medical/surgical nursing experience
  • Current BCLS and Current Physical Assessment course
  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to patient-centered care and evidenced based nursing practice
  • Excellent interpersonal & strong verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill and judgement on management of clients with ostomies and complex wounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Experiences in development of learning programs
  • Experience in counselling, teaching and providing support to patients in collaboration with other members of multidisciplinary team
  • Previous experience as a liaison with community health care providers
  • Project management experience
